AS the years go on the stories become slightly embellished. What started out as a simple try has now become a length of the field match winner. What hasn't changed though is the camaraderie shared amongst the 'old boys' of the Cooma Rugby Union Club.
A bumper day for Saturday, May 31, has been lined up for the Cooma Rugby Old Boys Day. Guests will enjoy a luncheon, followed by a number of cracking rugby games and then an after match function. Guest speaker and former Wallaby, Geoff Didier, will keep guests entertained.
This year's Old Boys Day is hoping to attract over 100 former friends and players. Marcus Caldwell who is organising the reunion says after a number of years of successful days the 2014 edition will be the best yet.
"It's always a good day to meet up with old friends and tell some yarns," Marcus said.
"The goal is for 100 people, last year we had around 80, so hopefully we crack the century and can celebrate a great afternoon."
The luncheon will begin proceedings at the Alpine Hotel from midday. Guests are then invited to Rotary Oval to watch an afternoon of top class rugby.
Cooma Rugby Club will take on Yass across the grades. Second grade kicks off at 1pm.
This will be followed by a match for the over 35s against the South Coast Blue Veins, which will lead into the first grade fixture at 3pm.
Off the field there is plenty to amuse the 'old boys' and families. Marcus is encouraging people to come down and enjoy what is always an entertaining day.
"There will be a big marquee set up, families are welcome with plenty of activities for the kids," Marcus said.
Cost for the afternoon is $80 which includes lunch, guest speaker, drinks, and food and beverages at the game.
