COOMA Red Devils first grade side took to the field on Saturday afternoon ready to build on their previous victory last Sunday against ADFA.

Cooma started full of running and from the opening whistle were up for the game. With strong running games from Pat Egan, Phil Johnson and Tom Ladhams, Cooma was able to get into Yass's half and after Cooma was awarded a penalty Ryan Morgan kicked a penalty goal to give Cooma a 3-0 lead.

This was extended to 6-0 with another penalty goal before Cooma extended its lead further when Will Nicholls found space and scored. With a successful conversion Cooma had a 13-0 lead.

Cooma was dominating the set pieces and after Yass were awarded a scrum five metres out from their own line, Cooma pushed the Yass scrum back over the try line and Phil Johnson dived on the loose ball, to give Cooma a 18-0 lead.

Yass replied with try of their own to narrow the margin, but Cooma extended its lead going into half time when Ryan Morgan scored after a sweeping play back to the blind side saw him score out wide. This gave Cooma a 23-7 half time lead.

The second half saw the introduction of some fresh legs with super coach Sean Neilson injecting himself into the game and James Ewart replacing Andrew Barron who had already played a game and a half.

Yass stepped up its intensity in the second half but good defence from Tommy Maxwell, James Nichols and Nick Keighley stopped Yass from posting further points.

Cooma extended its lead further when Morgan kicked another penalty goal. With a try to Pat Egan the Red Devils had pushed its lead out to 33-7 but Cooma didn't take its foot off the throat and when Tom Ladhams put Will Nicholls away for his second try of the afternoon Cooma's lead was out to 40-7.

The Red Devils wrapped up the match when Ryan Morgan was able to make a break and beat two or three would be tacklers kick ahead and Ben Kelly was able to chase through and score.

This made the final score 47-7. Points in first grade 1 point Pat Egan, 2 Points Will Nicholls, 3 points, Tommy Maxwell and players' player Andrew Barron.

Cooma has next weekend off but would like to wish Pat Egan, Leighton Bates, Phil Johnson and Ryan Morgan good luck as they have been selected in the Monaro rep side and we hope you represent the Red Devils with pride. Cooma is at home again the following week against Goulburn.
