THE Cooma Cats AFL side claimed their biggest scalp of their 2014 campaign on Saturday defeating the previously unbeaten Goulburn Swans, Cooma 12.12 (84) to Goulburn 6.6 (42).
Although the Cats doubled the Swans score the game was in the balance most of the day with the Cats only truly kicking away in the final 10 minutes after seeing off a late Swans charge.
The Cats started the game on the back foot conceding an early goal before putting on four of their own to lead at quarter time. A tightly contested second quarter saw the Cats eventually still holding a three goal lead at half time as the defensive brilliance of Cats captain Taylor Lee had the Swans struggling to find a way to goal.
With Dean Parrot and Kyle Hubert proving a handful in the forward line for the Swans they tried to double team the Cats forwards in the third term but the Cats were up to the task taking their lead to the final break.
The Swans showed their class and why they are considered the most dangerous in the competition kicking the first three goals in the final quarter before a determined Cats team goal saw off the challenge and some late goals made the final siren coming just in time for the late faltering Swans.
The Subway Cooma Player of the Week award went to Sam Hunter for an outstanding midfield display of skill, power and tackling prowess. The Cats would like to thank their 2014 sponsors the Australian Hotel, Subway Cooma, Chisholm Tavern, NAB and Coles Cooma.
The Cats play at home again next week up against Molonglo who will be another difficult opposition. The Snowy Supercats under 14's side had another strong game against Ainslie black and next week face Eastlake also at home prior to the Cats senior game.
After both games the Cooma Cats AFL club hosts its annual Family Fun Trivia Night at the Australian Hotel from 6pm. Everyone is invited for a great fun night. $10 entry for adults $5 for kids. Make a team of four or more or just turn up on the night. For more details check out www.coomacats.sportingpulse.net
