A DAMAGED fibre optic cable in Ulladulla caused major service problems for people in Cooma and across the Monaro on Friday, as landline phones were down for up to 12 hours.
At 6.35am on Friday, June 13, residents and businesses noticed their landline phones had lost service, while shops were without their EFTPOS machines for the majority of business hours.
Residents were affected across the Monaro and in parts of the South Coast with more than 8000 people without their landlines.
Telstra Area General Manager Larissa Redford said some services were restored during the day.
"Service crews applied a temporary patch during the day to restore some services before a full repair to all services by 6.35pm on Friday," Ms Redford said.
The outage affected Fixed Line Voice and 133 ISDN Voice and Data services for people in Bombala, Bodalla, Cooma, Dalmeny and Tilba Tilba.
Telstra apologised for any inconvenience to its customers.
