Local schools to receive boost

FOUR schools in the Cooma-Monaro Shire will benefit from funding for upgrades included in the State Budget.

Schools at Bredbo, Nimmitabel and Monaro High School will receive money for minor works for capital projects with an estimated total cost of less than $500,000.

New access ramps and paths will be built at Bredbo Public School, Monaro High's access paths will be upgraded and structural repairs will be undertaken at Nimmitabel Public School.

Meanwhile, Cooma North Public School will receive money under the Public School upgrade program for refurbishments of the kindergarten classrooms.

They were four of 11 public schools across the Monaro electorate to receive funding.

Member for Monaro John Barilaro said the works were scheduled to start in the 2014-2015 financial year.

"These upgrades will greatly improve the learning facilities at a number of schools in the Monaro," he said.

Two schools in the Snowy River Shire will also benefit from funding.

Berridale Public School will get money for canteen upgrades and Dalgety Public School will have stormwater repairs to the covered outdoor learning area.
