GROUP 16 rugby league is set to return to the Bombala Showground this weekend when the Cooma Stallions host Eden across three grades.
Stallions supporters are encouraged to make the trip to Bombala for what promises to be an absolute cracking afternoon of league.
The first grade fixture may very well determine which of the two sides plays in finals, with Cooma and Eden level on eight points. Eden sit fourth on the ladder while Cooma are fifth, due to an inferior points differential.
Breaking through the Eden defence will be a difficult challenge for the Stallions as the visitors take to the Bombala Showground as the league's best defensive unit.
Cooma are coming off a heavy defeat at the hands of Bega, while Eden easily accounted for Tathra 34-16. Eden boasts the competition's leading try scorer in Ian Smith, who has scored seven tries this season.
For the Stallions they have been well served by hooker Joel Smith, whose dynamic running game will be a key for the Stallions to taste success.
The Stallions reserve grade team narrowly lost to Bega last weekend 24-22, and come up against ladder leaders Eden who are so far undefeated.
In recent weeks Cooma has shown they are a threat to any team in the league, however a loss on the weekend will make their semi finals quest extremely difficult.
On the back of a powerful forward pack, led by James Salvestro who is the equal leading try scorer in Group 16 Reserve Grade, the Stallions are a realistic chance of causing an upset this Sunday.
In a closely contested encounter, the Cooma Fillies suffered their first loss of the season losing 8-4 to Bega last Sunday.
Cooma is second on the ladder and expected to be too strong for the sixth placed Eden side. Fillies's Maree Ingram has been one of the competition's most dangerous players, registering seven tries this season.
The under 18s side has the weekend off. Kick off for the Cooma Fillies is 12 pm, reserve grade 1pm and first grade 2.30pm.
