A NOVEL set in the Monaro has just been released by Momentum Books - a division of Pan McMillan's e-book line. Written by Goulburn author, Jane Carter, it tells of love between a descendant of an Italian immigrant family from the 1950's, Michael D'Larghi, and Jessie Cranfield, daughter of an old Monaro cattle family.
"Romance is such fun to write, you know there's going to be a HEA ending but you spend the whole book wondering how it's going to happen," Ms Carter said.
"High Country Secrets has been released as an e book. Which is a new world for me. I have enjoyed writing this book so much. Cooma and its history are fascinating. I can't believe just 60 years ago they put ten thousand migrants into tents. People from all over Europe who had, three years previously, been shooting at each other."
Jane and her husband run a livestock cartage business and have been carting animals in and out of the area for years. "I love the country up here, its special, with its extraordinary colouring and the feel of it. The animals and the people are wonderful. It's a perfect setting for a love story."
Jane Carter writes rural romance, a genre which has developed in the last ten years with authors such as Rachel Treasure and Fiona Palmer making the best seller list.
"It has become very popular," Jane said.
"Readers love the settings and the people, I think we can really nail the alpha male hero - Aussie farmers are perfect heroes."
