STUDENTS of St Patrick's Parish will be swapping their heaters for blankets this Friday to raise money for the Vinnies Winter Appeal.
With more than 100,000 Australians experiencing homelessness each night of the year and a quarter being under the age of 18, Year 10 students will be sleeping out in the school without heaters or pillows to raise money for those homeless in Australia.
The event has been organised by Year 10 'Sleepout Team' members Clair Schofield, Emma Locker, Jacob Wenban and Nicola Pearce.
The students have planned the event on their own, sharing various organisational roles for the project including the collecting of blankets, fundraisers for the event and contacting sponsors.
"We're doing it so others don't have to," the team said.
"So far there are approximately 30 students participating."
Students in each Primary class and each Secondary Homeroom are being challenged to contribute and buy a good quality blanket to donate.
The event will be supervised by St Patrick's Principal and Assistant Principal who will both participate in the event.
Year 10 students will be sleeping out at the St Patrick's Parish on Friday, August 1 from 9pm to 6am Saturday morning.
You can help by sponsoring a member of the Year 10 team per hour or by making a donation for the whole project.
If you would like to donate a blanket please place them in the blanket box in the Office.
