STUDENTS of St Patrick's Parish are set to light up the stage on Friday at Cooma Little Theatre for the opening night of their school musical, Oliver!

Budding actors and actresses from Years 5 to 10 have spent the past few months practising lines and rehearsing songs written and composed by Lionel Bart.

Auditions were held for the main roles in the musical, with student Alexander Smith landing the part of Oliver.

"I was very happy and excited when I saw that I was chosen for the character of Oliver. It's been pretty hard to remember everything but it's been fun and we're all getting better with each rehearsal," Smith said.

With such a large show underway, many students and teachers have rolled up their sleeves to help with the production.

"There are a lot of students getting involved with the production of the musical," cast member Harry Nichols explained.

"The art classes are making set designs and costumes and we also have the wood tech class building the set. Everyone is really enjoying being involved."

Oliver! will be performed on Friday, August 22 and 29 and Saturday, August 23 and 30 at 7pm at Cooma Little Theatre. Afternoon shows will be held on Saturday, August 23 and 30 at 1pm. Tickets available at Cooma Visitors Centre.
