LOCAL shooter Brody Walters has won a State Title at the NSW State Night Deauville Doubles Championships in Boorowa.
Walters is a junior member of the Cooma Gun Club and competed at the Championships with Charlie Smith from the Bega Gun Club.
A Deauville Doubles event has two shooters shooting at the same time at two targets in a double rise formation.
Competitors shoot off lanes one and five then two and four, from 22 metres. Once they have shot their designated target each shooter is able to use their second barrel to shoot their partners target, ensuring both targets have been hit. Brody and Charlie were one of three pairs to shoot the possible of 20/20 under lights in good weather conditions, all be it a little cold. During the shoot off, competitors lined up on lanes two and four in their pairs to continue shooting until a target is missed by a shooter from their pair. The first team was eliminated after 6 pair of targets. Brody saved his team by picking up a missed target by Charlie. This was soon reversed with Charlie shooting a target Brody missed.
After 16 pair of targets the other team missed a target, requiring Brody and Charlie to hit the next pair for them to win. With great concentration and composure, Brody called for the targets, both Brody and Charlie hit their targets in unison with an explosion of orange against the black sky, resulting in winning the State Title. Cooma Gun Club will hold their next shoot on the September 13. New shooters always welcome.
