One house has been destroyed by raging grass fires fanned by gale force winds across the Monaro late Wednesday.
The historic Myack farm house on the outskirts of Berridale, could not be saved and was engulfed by fire.
Around 200 hectares were also burnt at what was called the Doran fire - the neighbouring property .
An Emergency Alert telephone warning told people south of the Dalgety Road to take immediate action and prepare for the impact of the uncontrollable, unpredictable and fast-moving fires.
Another four fires, some thought to be hazard reduction burns that had been put out, but whipped up by the strong winds, were being brought under control at Cooma Snake Creek - Shannons Flat Road, Murrumbucca, Anglers Reach, Gullies Road on the Barry Way, Ingebyra and also at Grosses Plain.
