Nail biting win for Biga Boys

Round 15 saw the Biga Boys in nail biting finish defeat the Alpine Penguins 46-44. Similarities to 'the hare and the tortoise', Biga Boys got off to a great start scoring the first 12 points before the Penguins had their first basket.

Good defensive pressure and turns overs by the Penguins saw a considerable first quarter lead. In the second stanza the arrival of Marek Strzelecki made immediate impact on the scoreboard. This helped the Penguins slowly peg back the score and by the third quarter time saw them just four points behind. The last quarter commenced great for the Biga Boys with a couple of quick baskets to stretch the lead to eight. Some great rallying from the Penguins had saw them score some strong baskets under the hoop to even the score. At 44 all the next four minutes saw missed sitters, turnovers, air balls, great defence from both teams that no baskets were scored.

It took a controlled break from Yuvi Berstein to dash up the court and finally score a basket to seal the match in the dying seconds and win the game for the Biga Boys

Best for Biga boys was Yuvi Bernstien and Andy Morton for quick hands, steals and fast breaks. For Alpine Penguins it was Marek Strzelecki who dominated the second and third quarters with a variety of shots but mainly under the ring.

The last game of the night between Grasshoppers and Snowy was a tight affair and pressure was on both teams to assert early dominance. The score didn't reflect the closeness of the game. It was only in the last quarter that the Grasshoppers had some fast breaks and opened the margin in the score. In the end the Grasshoppers prevailed 42 - 32.

Best for Grasshoppers Tim Wall and Simon Clear with Matt Booker and Anthony Brenan strong under the hoop. This was last round of competition. Semi-finals will being tomorrow night (Wednesday).

Finals positions will be up for grabs so all teams will be out to perform.
