The Cooma Crew embark on an Australian odyssey

A group of three couples from Cooma, known as the 'Cooma Crew', will embark on a 14,000 kilometre journey on motorcycles around Australia next year all in the name of charity.

The 'crew' consisting of Andrew and Kathy Manthey, Brian and Dale Coyte and Jack and Di Nott will set off in May next year.

They will travel with about 40 other motorcyclists on the Around Australia Ride to raise money for the Steven Walter Children's Cancer Foundation (SWCCF).

The Steven Walter Children's Cancer Foundation is a not-for-profit foundation with a strategic plan to develop a significant long term fundraising capacity to benefit childhood cancer research in Australia.

All members of the Cooma Crew have been involved with the SWCCF's major annual fundraising event, The Snowy Ride, since its inception 12 years ago. The Coytes and Notts are original founding members of the Snowy Hyrdo Family Program. This program hosts families with a child suffering cancer, over the Snowy Ride weekend, treating them to a wonderful weekend in our beautiful Snowy Mountains Region.

Kathy Manthey has been involved with rider registration and organisation of the traffic control for all the checkpoints and assists greatly with the logistics of the ride. Andrew Manthey for many years picked up broken bikes and does all the jobs that no one else wants to do.

Each rider is set a fundraising target of $5000 and pillions a target of $2500.

Over the next eight months the crew will be holding fundraising events to raise money for the foundation.

It starts this Friday night with a wine tasting evening at the Alpine Hotel kicking off at 6.30pm.

There will be finger food, lucky door prizes, guest celebrity wine tasters costing $25 per head.

Other fundraising events to be held include an Alpine Tour involving a four day motorcycle ride through Victoria, a one in 100 raffle and joy rides from the Rotary Markets, Cooma.

A corporate sponsorship will entitle you to display your company logo on the Coyte's Honda ST1300 motorcycle as it makes its way around Australia and your logo will be displayed on this website.

All the funds raised will go directly to SWCCF and all accommodation, fuel and other costs associated with the crew going on the AAR will be covered by each of the crew personally.

The 2012 Snowy Ride is just around the corner with registrations really strong. Riders will be heading to the region on November 3.
